I rolled the dice and took a big risk by replacing my Prime Leg Extension/Leg Curl Combo, Strive Bicep Curl, and Strive Tricep Extension machines with the Prime Smart Arm to create some much needed space in my home gym.
The most important thing to me was that the exercises would feel as effective as they did on my stand alone machines and luckily for me I did find that they do feel very similar to their commercial counterparts!
The biggest difference to me is the overall play in the unit, as the Smart Arm eco system is essentially multiple pieces working in conjunction with one another vs the stability of a single several hundred pound commercial gym machine.
One issue that’s come about is that 45lb plates can currently hit the rack’s post when loaded onto the top (#3) weight peg during the biceps curl exercise -however, this becomes a nonissue by simply placing a couple barbell collars on the top peg BEFORE loading the 45s to create a some space for the larger plate to avoid the post.
Mathematically, the Smart Arm essentially replaces six commercial gym machines that would run up to tens of thousands of dollars-all for about $3k. That fact alone, along with the space savings of having one multifunctional machine instead of multiple has totally made the trade offs worth it to me!
